Terms of Service

Welcome to Moonjii. These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Moonjii website, mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Platform"). By creating an account or using Moonjii, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.

1. About Moonjii and who you are contracting with

Moonjii is an independent research project exploring how hyper-local, residency-verified social networks affect community trust in high-density housing. It is operated by the individuals behind the project on a non-commercial basis and is not yet an incorporated legal entity. In these Terms, "Moonjii", "we", "us" and "our" refer to that project and the people operating it.

The Platform is currently in a limited pilot. It is provided free of charge, may change substantially without notice, and may be paused or discontinued. Features may be incomplete or experimental. If Moonjii is later incorporated or transferred to a legal entity, we will update these Terms and notify registered users.

2. Eligibility and account safety

Age requirement

You must be 18 years of age or older to create an account or use the Platform. Moonjii is designed for adults and does not knowingly permit minors to register. If we learn that an account belongs to someone under 18, we will terminate it. See our Child Safety Standards.

Residency verification

Moonjii is built around real, local communities. You agree to provide accurate, current and complete information during registration, including information sufficient to verify your residency at the building or neighbourhood you are joining.

Identity versus visibility

The information you give us for verification must be accurate. What your neighbours see is separate and under your control — you may use an anonymous handle or enable an Anonymous Persona as described in our Privacy Policy.

Account responsibility

You are solely responsible for the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately of any unauthorised use. You may hold one personal account; creating additional accounts to evade a suspension is prohibited.

3. Community code of conduct

To keep Moonjii safe and welcoming, you agree not to:

  • Harass or abuse others. Bullying, stalking, threatening, intimidating or abusing other users, or posting content that attacks or demeans people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability or age.
  • Impersonate or misrepresent. Registering under a false identity, claiming residency at a building where you do not live, or representing a business, building management or organisation without authorisation.
  • Endanger children. Any content or conduct that sexualises, endangers or exploits a minor is prohibited without exception and is addressed under our Child Safety Standards, including reporting to NCMEC and law enforcement.
  • Engage in illegal activity. Promoting, organising or carrying out unlawful acts, including fraud, harassment, vandalism, or trafficking in illegal goods or services.
  • Spam or misuse the Platform commercially. Scraping data, flooding feeds with repetitive promotional content, operating unauthorised bots, or using resident data for marketing outside the Platform.
  • Compromise the Platform. Attempting to breach security controls, access data outside your verified residency scope, reverse-engineer the service, or interfere with its operation.

4. User-generated content

You own your content. You retain ownership of the text, photos, listings, reviews and other content you post ("User Content").

Licence to us. By posting User Content, you grant Moonjii a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to host, store, reproduce, display and distribute that content solely to operate, secure and improve the Platform, and — in aggregated and de-identified form only — for the research purposes described in section 1. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies retained in backups pending routine deletion and for content others have already saved or shared.

Moderation. We may review, flag, restrict or remove User Content that violates these Terms or is harmful to the community. Automated screening is applied to uploaded images and messages as described in our Child Safety Standards. Every profile, message and post carries a report control; child safety reports are prioritised above all others.

5. Privacy and account deletion

Our collection and use of personal data — including how we encrypt residency and contact information — is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms.

Account deletion. You may delete your account at any time from within the app (Settings → Account → Delete Account) or via our account deletion page. Once a request is verified, your personal data is permanently removed from active systems within 30 days, subject to the limited retention exceptions in the Privacy Policy.

6. Community features and peer interactions

The Platform lets neighbours interact directly through the Community Shelf (lending and giving away items), the Skill Exchange (offering and requesting help or services), amenity booking, and promotions posted by nearby local businesses.

We do not vet participants or items. Moonjii verifies that users are residents of the building or neighbourhood they claim. We do not vet the quality, safety, legality, condition or ownership of any item shared, service offered, or promotion posted. We are not a party to any arrangement between users, or between a user and a merchant or building manager.

Interactions are at your own risk. Any exchange, service, meeting or transaction arranged through the Platform is solely between the people involved.

Safety guidance. For any physical exchange, we strongly recommend meeting in a public, well-lit shared space rather than inside a private residence, inspecting items before accepting them, and reporting any interaction that feels unsafe.

Merchant content. Promotions posted by local businesses are their own. Moonjii does not endorse, verify or guarantee any offer, and is not responsible for a merchant honouring it.

7. Intellectual property

The Moonjii name, logo, design and software are ours or our licensors'. These Terms grant you a personal, limited, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the Platform for its intended purpose. They grant you no right to use our branding, copy our design, or build derivative services from the Platform.

8. Third-party services

The Platform runs on third-party infrastructure, including hosting and database providers, and may use third-party services to process contact form submissions. These providers act as processors under our instructions and are described in our Privacy Policy. We are not responsible for the practices of any third-party site you reach via a link from the Platform.

9. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Platform is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or uninterrupted availability. Moonjii is an experimental research pilot and may contain errors, lose data, or become unavailable.

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Moonjii and the individuals operating it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, goodwill or opportunity, arising from your use of the Platform — including any dispute, injury, loss or damage arising from interactions between users, whether online or in person.

Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

10. Suspension and termination

We may suspend or permanently terminate your account and revoke access if you breach these Terms, if your conduct threatens the safety of the community, or if we are required to do so by law. Serious violations — particularly those involving child safety, threats or harassment — result in immediate permanent termination.

You may stop using the Platform and delete your account at any time under section 5. Because the Platform is an unfunded research pilot, we may also discontinue it entirely; we will give registered users reasonable notice and an opportunity to export their data where feasible.

11. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Platform or our legal obligations. Material changes will be announced in-app or by email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect. Continued use after that date constitutes acceptance. The "Last updated" date above always reflects the current version.

12. Governing law and general

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of Tel Aviv–Jaffa, except where mandatory consumer-protection law in your country of residence grants you the right to bring proceedings locally.

  • Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force.
  • No waiver. Failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
  • Entire agreement. These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy and Child Safety Standards, are the entire agreement between you and Moonjii regarding the Platform.
  • Assignment. You may not assign these Terms. We may assign them to a legal entity formed to operate Moonjii, on notice to you.
  • Language. These Terms are published in English and Hebrew. In the event of a conflict, the English version governs unless mandatory local law provides otherwise.
